The House, too, on the detainee/torture bill?

From a longer AP piece on the "wrangling."
House Majority Leader John Boehner, R-Ohio, rescheduled a Wednesday vote, claiming the Judiciary Committee needed time to review the bill. A congressional official speaking on condition of anonymity said House leaders were now uncertain they had enough votes for the Bush plan to prevail.

Apparently, CNN is reporting that Graham, Warner, and McCain have rejected the White House's "compromise" offer.

(And, notice no mention of Arar.)

  • The people in the news media are wankers. How can they NOT mention the Arar travesty when mentioning the preznit's torture/detainee "compromise"?

Frankly, I might start supporting Bush's detainee propsoal if it means members of the news media get tortured/treated harshly for the way they continue to enable/coddle/play ball w/ Rove and the GOP.

And if I get to do the waterboarding on Ed Henry, John Roberts or Jon King - oh, baby, that's a dealmaker!

BTW, if John Roberts got waterboarded, which do you think would give first - him or his hair?

  • But that's precisely the same mistake the pro-torture people are making.

It starts with Ed Henry and then ends up with Shuster, David Gregory, and Olberman.

Another thing that has been little talked about is the expansion of the definition of terrorism.

I don't think that they would start torturing "eco terrorists," or "narco terrorist," but that standard has already started to slide under the patriot act.

Just a paranoid piece creeping in the back of my mind.

  • I know, I know, I was just being snarky about waterboarding Ed Henry. Besides, the oil that would come off him...

That's an excellent point about the expansion of the definition of "terrorist". As a sidenote to that, how come abortion clinic bombers aren't considered "terrorists" by this administration while guys who bombs empty SUV's are?

  • I've asked that before. Or maybe the White Supremecist here in Texas who was arrested with bomb equipment, ricin instructions, and 100,000 rounds of ammo who only got caught because his fake passport was mailed to the wrong address.
