Ney still in the House.

OK, so on Friday Republican Congressman Bob Ney agrees to plead guilty to two felonies, agrees to 27 months in federal prison.

Has he resigned? Has anyone on the Republican side asked him to resign?

It's not like there's even a question. Dude plead guilty, and as of right now, he's still a Republican Congressman.

Update: Ney actually sent a letter saying he would resign his committee seats, but not his office.

  • I read somewhere, I think Hotline blog, that behind the scenes, he's getting a lot pressure to resign (just the way he got a lot of pressure to not run for re-election.) It's interesting that so far he hasn't listened and so far the news media aren't screaming about it. I wonder why?

  • Party and power is the perversion of the current crop of Republicans. The country exists only for the the enrichment of these pols and their friends.... Everyone else? Screw 'em.

  • Reality, I saw that, too, somewhere, but that's what makes it stand out.

    It's behind the scenes.

I assume that the media expects and announcement shortly that's why they're not saying much, but I would think the sequence would be you resign then plead guilty. But maybe that's just me.

There's also that whole thing with his rehab.

EPM, yeah. I didn't doubt the motives of the '94 Republicans. I didn't agree with them, but I really thought they believed they were doing what they thought best for the country.

Now, getting reelected has become the sole purpose of the majority. Anything that furthers that goal is OK. The Republicans have become about the majority rather than the country. So it's time to run them out.

Or perhaps reaching back, "It's time for them to go."

  • It feels like an alternate universe. Does anyone even care? Maybe when the formal plea comes on the 13th they will make a big deal out of it.

Not bad timing if you think about it.

  • I care. I think if it goes on a few more days the media will care.

But that's been the operating principle for the last 5 years. If the big stuff is going badly, you can do almost anything at the smaller level and it won't be noticed.
