My governor Rick Perry is slime. He called a special election concurrent with the November election so that the write in candidate's name will be somewhere on the ballot. This comes after all the experts have declared the seat either tossup or leans Dem.
300 calls is hardly a notable response if the Utah Republican party is trying to overwhelm the Salt Lake City mayor's office to stop the anti-Bush protest.
Lieberman is searching (unsuccessfully) for a new web team. I guess those allegations of Lamont tanking the site were bunk, eh? Funny, I haven't seen an apology.
And, how's that post Katrina, Jackson Square "war on poverty" going Mr. Bush?

I saw the special election thing. It is a slimy, but it's also crafty. Will it work, Mike? Will the predictions swing back to "Lean Republican" now that the special election adds the hyphenated woman's name (even I can't remember what it is) to the ballot?

I don't know. Is the unconnected Republican voter going to know to vote for her in one race and then write her in on another?
Also, big, big city, so it's not like the media is going to describe it over and over. It's a big race, but it's one among many, many locally.
Frankly, even with this tactic, I think trying to run a write in campaign is going to be difficult. I would not be surprised if the special election went Republican and the real one went Dem.
You also figure a fair number of Repubs will vote for Delay who is still on the ticket.
The interesting thing is that Delay watered down his own district in the redistricting fiasco. It used to be 65/35 or 70/30. Now it's somewhere around 54/46, but it is still a red district in a red state.
It'll be turnout and if the Republicans can somehow manage a write in campaign.
Bottom line, I don't know. But I would guage it leaning Dem, but it'll probably be a winner in the low 40's. (42 Lampson, 38 write in, 15 Delay something like that.)
It'll still be close.

I went look for an article to link so I could make the correction, and I found this on WFAA which implies that it would be one ballot.
" A spokesman for Secretary of State Roger Williams said each county is responsible for putting the ballot together. Williams' office recommends that counties place the special elections at the top of the ballot, followed by the general election in order to minimize voter confusion."

It's a separate election, but the same physical ballot.
