Bush off the cuff on Katrina
Very telling snip from this AFP article.
Somebody on the staff slipped up there. Not like Biloxi.
But local frustration was also on the menu as a waitress took Bush to task over the botched government response to the killer storm.....
"No, ma'am," Bush said, with a laugh and a pause. "Not again."
Somebody on the staff slipped up there. Not like Biloxi.
Bush's visit to Mississippi, carefully scripted by the White House, left little possibility of the president encountering much anger over the federal reconstruction efforts.

While I agree that the symbolic gesture of the president—any president—to visit the areas impacted by Katrina, is warranted and to be expected, the reality is that in this case it is only symbolic. So much so, that the carefully orchestrated manuvers to keep the president isolated from the frustration is aimed only at providing photo ops.

Yeah, Dave, and in front of a reporter.
Zen, Oh yeah. It's all photo op.
That's kinda what I was trying to say a couple days ago when I was talking about a concern for votes over voters.
The actual people of New Orleans aren't important except as their discomfort might affect a national audience.
(And I responded to your Webb/allen comments on the Obama post.)

"concern for votes over voters" I missed that...Love it.
(I did catch your posts, I had retired for the evening, but I liked the discussion. We ought to look for wise ways to improve the party. And these types of forums and great discussions can be the vehicle.)
