Gary Matthews, Jr. was named to the AL All-Star Team on July 2. I know nothing about the guy, but about a week ago, I ran across this picture of him visiting Iraq vet Kenneth Dixon back when he played for the Orioles. I'll be rooting for him.
Gary is one of those ball players that has bounced all over the league. He is good, but streaky. I am glad he got the invite to the AS game..and I heart him for this as well.
I watch baseball sporadically, at best, so I have no idea. Something about this picture just caught me.
Having been in the hospital for an extended period as a child, I just remember how welcome any distraction was. A minor league baseball player who came by and told stories would've been a godsend.
In my mind, although the commitment and risk is smaller than a USO tour (which I also applaud,) this is a really big deal.
Alot of athletes and stars have done this, but I saw this one and thought I'd put it up.
This is not the America I was brought up to believe in.
This blog seeks to highlight abuse of power, deception, corruption, and just plain bad ideas in government and corporations.
