TV Alert
Take a look at the blurb for PBS's Frontline next week. (Check local listings.) It's going to cover the conflict between the Cheney-Rumsfeld axis pushing for war in Iraq versus Tenet and the Intel side who "saw non-state actors such as Al Qaeda as the highest priority."
That pretty much covers the question that we all want answered. Why in the hell are we in Iraq rather than fighting Al Qaeda?
I've seen the first two of this series and they were excellent, but then again, I absolutely love their voiceover guy, and could listen to him read anything. He's the guy who did the voiceover on Chapelle's Show when they did the bit on the blind, black KKK leader.
Oh, and as a further teaser, the episode is titled, The Dark Side. Why do I think it'll be about Cheney?

Fighting al qaeda means you don't get to steal a nation's natural resources, and would probably bring an end to the war on terrorism a lot quicker than use it for a cover to seize control of the gulf region and all the oil located therein.

True. One of the theories of the neocons(from the Straussian academic side) is that America needs sustaining myths and one of the reasons we suffered "moral decay" in the nineties was that we had no enemy thus losing both national purpose and, without a threat, the socially corrective control of religion.
