Project for the New American Century is closing
Isn't this just so typical? When things get nasty, they scurry away leaving no forwarding address. (see Richard Perle.)
They claim a sense of "goal accomplished."
The doors may be closing shortly on the nine-year-old Project for a New American Century, the neoconservative think tank headed by William Kristol , former chief of staff to Vice President Dan Quayle and now editor of the Weekly Standard, which is must reading for neocon cogitators and agitators.
They claim a sense of "goal accomplished."

That's their description. I see it as the old saying:
The rats will jump ship as the boat is sinking.

"Mission Accomplish" right, so this complete mess was their intention...this is success to them...a world of Fear and paranoia and violence.

What's weird is that if you read "Rebuilding America's Defenses," which was their signature document, Iraq was just the first stage.
The eventual goal was full spectrum dominance keeping all other potential global rivals down as regional powers.
They can claim they did what they were after, but in reality, they barely got into the first stage and in the process spawned a new skepticism and nativism.

I don't think that this is even achievable without a commited set of allies (even if regional) to support US policy initiatives, and their methodology would seem to make that an impossibility. The proof has been in the pudding... so to speak.

I never said their plan was good or viable, in fact it goes against my core geopolitical belief that we are in the process of a resettling of the US as just another nation rather than the hyper-hegemon.
But, that was the belief of the group, that the 21st century could be an american century like the 20th.
I think your observation is quite sharp in noting that such a plan would require the support of a complicit and submissive Europe.
But alot of people who signed onto this piece of fantasy were placed in key positions throughout the administration by the 2001 "transition coordinator," Dick Cheney, who also happened to be a signatory.

Did you happen to catch Kristol on Colbert? When asked how that whole PNAC thing was going, WK was quite tongue-tied.
Probably available on Crooks and Liars.....appropriately so.

Yeah, I saw that. The satire just broke him, left him speechless as he heard his own prewar words coming back to him. It was brilliant.
