  • If the list were any more complete, I'd have to wonder whether we are the Christian, peace-loving nation we like to believe we are.

  • The one thing to remember is that this list extends back to pre WWII with about the same number of events, although most of those are much smaller operations, showing the flag or landing the marines with no shooting or just for impact.

    I don't know why I thought I ought to do this this morning.

    We are an empire. We have been for a century. The first major formal declaration was the Monroe Doctrine.

    Also, just as a curious side note, notice the shift away from the largely successfful CIA operations to larger more military actions.

  • Great list, but you forgot the Congo, in 1961. The CIA helped Belgium overthrow democratically elected Patrice Lumumba.
