or "Might as well start retraining for the only job I'll be able to get once I'm ousted from office."

  • Better hurry up and cover John Howard before the Australians start missing him.

(footnot: The Aust PM was in Washington planting bushes with the prez)

  • When I saw the picture, I had the same thought as Cartledge.

If you are on the staff of the most secretive administrations in history, you get very nervous when the president personally starts digging shallow holes in seclude locations of the White House grounds.

  • He lost his lucky rabbit's foot and he won't be able to talk to God now without it.

  • With Rove soon to be gone, George W. Bush has to bury his own bodies now.

  • Yeah, Cartledge, I almost used the picture of Bush watching Howard dig,(old white guy in place of immigrant) but this was a better picture.

And it's pretty funny that I didn't even think about him burying something. I guess that was the effect that they were after with the immigration speech last night. It has invaded my thinking.

Has anyone else noticed Iraq sliding from the headlines since Bolten took over?

  • "Better lift your feet, the shit's getting deep."

    or

"President Bush prepares materials for his next speech to the American public"

On Bolten changing the message: I think you're absolutely right. And frankly it's a strategy that they must do. We cannot afford a president that fails only in one realm.
Bolten must be getting a crash course from Rove before the little bird flies on his own.

  • Even Rove spoke mostly on domestic issues at yesterday's AEI gathering.

  • Yeah, I do feel a shift in the media coverage away from Iraq. In some regard it's not their fault, part of their job is to report what the president says and does, and immigration does command alot of interest from their readers.

But historically, the media should also serve a moral purpose to cover the stories that are there, not just the topic of the day or those that are pushed upon them.

(And, Reality Based, I'm about to bail on the Leopold story. In his last interview yesterday, he said that he expected an announcement tomorrow. So that would be the pass/fail veracity test. If it doesn't take place, I'm going towrite a lengthy correction/apology. Just thought I'd let you know since we've both been covering it tight.)
