New Bush poll, new low
The NYTimes has a new Bush poll out(31/61+ if you're keeping score at home.) The also have this nice graphical breakdown on all sorts of individual issues.
The item that really jumped out at me was this question. Which party is "more likely to come closer to sharing your moral values?" Republicans 37%, Democrats 50%. (Take a look.)
(The CBS story has this: "68% believe the United States is worse off today than it was before Bush became president.")

What a difference a year and a half makes.
What are the chances of Tweety doing a bunch of segments on "Why Republicans have lost the 'values' vote"?

Is Tweety Russert or Chris MAtthews?
If it's Matthews, the chances are fair, actually, I think. He has some underlying biases towards the current crop of Repubs, but after watching him for the past two years, I think he's more of a whore. His positions and toughness seem to shift with public opinion. About a seven to ten point Republican bias, and definitely a lagging indicator, but, if you've seen him talking about Rove/Plame lately or the Iraq intel week a little while back, he has swung to be tougher on the administration. (Bush is still such a "likeable guy" to him, though.)
If it's Russert, the questions will be "what do the Republicans need to do to regain their longterm values edge?"

Tweety is Matthews. And you're right, Tweety is tougher on the administration and the GOP these days. But it takes him a while to realize the old CW has changed. Remember how long it took him to realize that Bush was an unpopular president? Long after Bush's approval ratings were tanking, Matthews still thought Bush's job approval was much higher than it was. And as you've pointed out, he still thinks Bush is likeable and only "wackos" hate the president.
Matthews has been quite good on the CIA leak case, though Shuster's reporting accounts for much of that.

I agree fully. Matthews is a lagging indicator, and he is still susceptible to Republican spin. "Why don't the dems have a plan?" and his tone about Pelosi as examples.
And, Schuster has consistently been the best on tv on the scandal beat. Alot of days, I will record hardball on the DVR and just fast forward through to his report.
