Bolivia just jumped ahead of Iran
After signing a trade agreement Saturday with Venezuela and Cuba "cast as an alternative to U.S. plans for a free-trade pact with the Latin American region," Bolivia has just tody, more or less, nationalized their natural gas industry.
Iraq was bad policy for so many reasons.
LA PAZ, Bolivia - President Evo Morales ordered soldiers to occupy Bolivia's natural gas fields Monday and threatened to evict foreign companies unless they give Bolivia control over the entire chain of production. The breakdown in US hegemony is directly connected to the long and unsuccessful invasion and occupation of Iraq. With the US militarily tied down, those countries who wish to fight against US influence are now emboldened.
Iraq was bad policy for so many reasons.

And yet, 33% of Americans still support this train wreck. Amazing.

It is ironic.

call me crazy, but I don't think US international economic policy has been a good thing, especially in Latin America.

Graeme, I completely agree.
I first became politically aware and politically active around the US foreign policy in Central America during the Reagan administration. I did then, and still view it as criminal, training of death squads, support of dictators, subverting elections, etc. Even in the 90's, the debt leverage to force neoliberal economic policies greatly impoverished the common people of the region
I didn't intend to express support for the tactics and mechanisms that have been visited through US foreign policy. My point in this post was supposed to be that the empire is overextended and crumbling.
Thank you. That's very useful criticism.
