Well, no, not really. Mind you, you do not have elected ministers/secretaries. But there is a concept known as ministerial responsibility, or as one of your presidents put it – The Buck Stops Here. The Secretary bears final responsibility for those under his/her charge. Certainly punish down the line, but the problem in the end is one of poor administrative standards set by the secretary. Of course most countries with elected admins have now found ways around the convention.
Yeah, but it's just so surprising to see an official "do the right thing" after such a catastrophic mistake. Michael Brown had to be fired, Rumsfeld is still in place, Bremer and Tenet got medals of freedom. Rove's still in place, etc.
Yeah, I know, picky picky. The house of cards will come down soon enough, they will pay. Speaking of Rove, just to spoil a perfectly good day, has his 'lip-welded' PA, Susan Ralston shown up on the radar lately?
This is not the America I was brought up to believe in.
