Not enough votes for Miers

I've avoided the whole Harriet Miers argument because, quite frankly, except for the big historical cases my legal knowledge is very limited so I don't consider myself qualified to discuss the SCOTUS too much. However, this story is significant politically when framed against the diminishing effectiveness of the Bush White House.

A Democrat on the Senate committee that will consider Harriet Miers' nomination said Sunday that President Bush's Supreme Court choice lacks the votes now to be confirmed, saying there are too many questions about her qualifications.

"If you held the vote today, she would not get a majority either in the Judiciary Committee or the floor,"
