And when did polls start substituting for news? This trend is alarming, since polls can change on a dime while reality has not changed at all. I understand the use of polls to plan campaigns, but I don't get how they have come to be substituted for news about what has actually happened in the world. The same news agencies that report peoples' opinions are the ones that are giving them the information on which to base the opinions: Is the poll a quiz to see how well you absorbed the lesson they taught? I think it's just lazy news. If you ask the right questions, you're sure to get a news peg for a story.
Also, If your organization generates a shocking poll result, it acts as advertising as every one of the talk shows and blogs and whatever else will say "According to a new CNN poll...."
Third, technology has allowed easier conducting of automated phone polling, so there are more competitors and it is cheaper (although methodology is seriously slipping.)
(As a curious thought, maybe the media are polling more questions because they believe that trope that they're "not in touch with "real America."")
This is not the America I was brought up to believe in.
This blog seeks to highlight abuse of power, deception, corruption, and just plain bad ideas in government and corporations.

I think that's a fair argument.
