CPAC and primaries

With Marco Rubio now tied or leading Charle Crist, I'm sure it doesn't soothe John McCain to keep seeing mentions of "Crist, McCain challengers at CPAC." If Rubio gets clearly ahead, McCain may be the next high profile conservative primary target.

  • Would this "Tea Party" craziness be happening now if McCain had NOT picked Palin as running mate? Think of all the nut jobs that came out of the woodwork -- and onto our TV screens -- after Palin became the VP nominee. Was that the Genesis moment?

  • Good question.I can't say cleanly that it was Palin, but Palin was part of the broader decision to hint at racism which started this whole thing off. McCain validated those veiled "nativist" impulses and allowed them to come out.

Prior to that campaign turn, everyone was treating Obama 's race with kid gloves, and those that had those feelings kept them quiet out of fear of public shame.

Now, I don't think all the teabaggers are racist, but that very first Obama is a Muslim/terrorist that started the fire was racist, and Palin played a big part in stirring that pot.

    So, yeah. McCain is responsible.
