Thought

We haven't heard much from the Congressional Republicans since "Limbaugh as GOP leader" took hold.

  • I noticed that too.

On the other hand, it seems like Fox News has taken a complete dive off the cliff. Judging only from snippets I pick up from admittedly biased sources (ThinkProgress, etc) it appears that Fox News is in full out propaganda mode, and I mean that seriously. Indeed, there seems to be a real visceral, vile, make-it-up-as-you-go-alone anti-Obama, anti-Democratic, anti-reason parade of insanity going on.

Maybe it's just a cable thing in general and FoxNews just pokes it's head a little higher... I dunno. I just have an antenna and get my video news from PBS.

  • I'd like to think that the recent low figures for Congressional Republicans has put a lid on some of the most egregious falsehoods and insanity.

That said, the MSM has definitely "picked up the slack". This is nearly incomprehensible to me. Idiot after idiot pushes the idea, with varying degrees of subtlety, that Obama is dangerous and reviled by the nation.

The MSM has nothing to gain by appeasing the Right, since the Republicans have spent the past two decades convincing their followers that the MSM cannot be trusted; only FNC is "fair and balanced", after all.

While the GOP seems to have signed a suicide pact with McCain, the media has settled on a course of self-mutilation.

Obama really is driving them literally crazy.

  • Bashing Obama keeps the pot boiling.

  • EPM, yeah, FoxNews has kinda gone off the cliff.... but, then again, they're catering to their audience.

And, no, it's not just all cable networks. Fox "news" reporters openly and unapologetiticaly show bias.

    ....

Todd, I've noticed the media bashing a bit, too. There seems to be a bias that Obama has to prove any assertions or statements (as opposed to our last President where they gave up trying and just reported the statements as literal.)

And I might argue over whether the media is playing this wrong in a "Ratings sense."

They don't fill their airtime with news, but instead with "controversy." That model of people arguing politics sells far better than straight news reporting.

  • Some say the media has a left bias, some say the media has a right bias.

I think they have only one bias - ratings. Anything to stir the pot. "Everything is going fine" draws neither readers nor viewers.

  • I think that's a pretty reasonable argument.

If you know Rupert.... FoxNews wouldn't be FoxNews if they weren't making money at it.
