That is funny... but could you imagine if an American president did go to Mecca? Not in a pandering way, but just as an acknowledgement of respect. I wonder what this might do to focus the attention of the actors in the Israeli/Palestinian conflict... and the broader Middle East. Maybe nothing, I dunno, but it's an interesting idea.

Yeah, I wasn't really thinking about Obama. It was just the notion -- first expressed in jest -- seemed really compelling to me as a "what if".
I didn't know about the non-Muslim thing with Mecca.
