I remember seeing Al Franken and Tom Davis doing a skit on SNL back in the 70's. Amazing, in a good way(unlike The Gipper) that he's going to the Senate.
In a weird way, I think this long recount thing has allowed Franken to transition from novelty to more serious. It's allowed people to gety used to the idea.
Mike: agreed. I was also thinking it has offered Franken an opportunity to temper his pricklyness (he has a reputation for not bearing fools lightly). It's given him a chance to incubate -- if you will.
Just as you say, it's helped the pubic to see Franken as more serious, it's also allowed Franken to demonstrate seriousness. Conversely, Colman has demonstrated... what? Egocentric pettiness?
Plus, if he'd come in right after the elections, the GOP villanization would have been more effective because the media would have played along... a comedian in the Senate!
But, they've had time to get used to the idea and it seems to have taken the attacking edge off.
This is not the America I was brought up to believe in.
This blog seeks to highlight abuse of power, deception, corruption, and just plain bad ideas in government and corporations.

Ironically, it's the comedian who is the more serious candidate.
