Quickhits

Laura Bush extended an invitation to Michelle, Sasha, and Malia to visit the White House. (The Bushes seem kinda happy that Obama won.)

(CNN) Newspapers fly off the racks after Obama victory.

(OregonLive) It looks like Jeff Merkley beat Gordon Smith for the Oregon Senate seat.

(N&O) Local paper says Obama likely won North Carolina.

And, (Politico) Appalachia still hates Obama.

  • Voting shifts.

Go to this link and select "Voting Shifts" from the list on the left. Appalachia and the Ozarks and the Bayou, really, really, don't like Obama.

  • I feel sorry for Appalachia, then. I hope they enter the current century soon.
I also feel... amazed? Dazed? Appalled? Disbelieving? ...that 56 million people looked at McCain and Palin and seriously thought they'd make credible stewards of the United States of America.
I mean... Old Man Potter? A woman who didn't know which countries were involved in NAFTA?
    We dodged a bullet, seriously.

  • EPM, I saw that one. Shoulda linked that, too.

The other interesting but in that is that southern Louisiana without the black people is much more Republican.

    ....

Anon, we did certainly dodge a bullet. Separate from your points, after watching the McCain campaign, can you imagine a McCain administration?

(And maybe we need to get Appalachia cable?)

  • Cable would just reinforce their bias. Cable doesn't have news, it has self-validating infotainment.

  • Oh, I didn't mean for news. I was trying to snarkily imply that they needed to be connected to the modern world in some way.
