Picture of the Day

After weeks of complaints from journalists traveling with McCain about his lack of availability, the McCain campaign decides it'd be funny to give them a big cardboard standup McCain on the plane.

Hahaha we're screwing you.... Hahaha isn't that funny?

(PS. McCain became "unavailable" right when the campaign decided to start attacking. Some coincidence, huh?)

  • When does the media's McCain man-crush end? Has it? Will it?

I'm continually surprised at the disparity with which the media nit-pick everything Obama says and the legitimacy they give every Obama "concern", and the shallowness with which they examine and report on McCain.

Sure, there are some in the media who "like" Obama, but even they nit-pick snippets and give voice to "concerns". You don't see the fawning "can I fetch you a doughnut, Mr. Senator." that you do (or did) with McCain.

  • It has ended.

Part of the reason they nitpick Obama is because he's the clear frontrunner and presumed next president. What he says is more important.

But I also think it's questions about "experience." They're still feeling this guy out and his newness means his positions and statements get a little more scrutiny.

I'd have to say this is legitimate. With a few notable (notorious?) exceptions, there has been very little gotcha reporting in the traditional media.

McCain, by contrast, gets less critical attention because he is presumed to be a known quantity. Even if what is "known" is based on assumption, myth and spin. I guess I find this more than a little frustrating...

  • I also would reiterate, McCain gets less attention because he's not the next likely president.

  • I lack your faith in the American electorate... I'll believe it when I see it.

  • Understandably.

I just have faith in the Obama campaign staff. They have been remarkably effective and the environment is on their side.

It's definitely not done, but the polling isn't moving..... AT ALL. McCain in the low 40's, Obama in the high 40;s with undecided's around 8.

If they break even it's an electoral landslide.

That may change, but it's been two months, and it hasn't yet. I don't see a McCain silver bullet (they would have fired it by now,) so it really comes down to whether the Obama folks make a 5 point mistake.
