Picture of the Day - 2

It was a madhouse at the US embassy in Iraq when Obama walked through. I mean, they went nuts.

Take a minute to watch the ABC/Nightline report last night. About 50 seconds in.

  • They've been trapped in there so long they're probably happy to see a new face.

  • So your contention is that he's about the same as a b grade celeb on the USO tour.

  • I think they are getting too excited...news cameras have that effect on people especially in confined spaces.

  • I think this speaks volumes, especially in the context of Rice's "do not assist" memo. I don't know what will happen in November, but this is looking like a movement. And I don't think it's just about Obama -- though surely much of it is. It's about the suffocating frustration and powerlessness so many have felt under this despicable presidency.

  • Don't get me wrong....I hope Obama wins. But the excitement in the Embassy may be premature. Those people in the photo have probably never been out of the Green Zone. The Iraqis aren’t celebrating yet. And I don’t think Obama seriously expects to get very many American troops out of Iraq.

  • I don't know anon, I really tend to side the other way. If there's anyone craving an amorphously defined change, I would think it would be the soldiers and embassy workers stranded in Iraq.

Hardly the first choice posting for any of them.

There's an emotional component to the "change" mantra that's pretty powerful.
