While I'm not particularly pro-Iranian, Iran deserves a big "thank you" from the West for it's efforts against the Afghan heroin trade for almost ten years now. They've been more or less fighting a low-intensity border war with smugglers. It's expensive and thankless, but they've done more than we have with all our troops there.

I know next to nothing about the situation, but I can't imagine that they're happy about the prospects of a heroin flood in the European capitals.

With Iran, it's a security issue. The drug trade corrupts local officials and the military and makes it easier for black market arms dealers, too.
So it's not completely altruistic on their part.
