Picture of the Day - 2

There are some very early polling trends that seem to show Obama's support among white women turning negative.

I wonder why that is....?

  • I think I'd view all of this differently if there was one clear example of Obama or a top aide actually being sexist against Clinton.

Hinting that she might get out of the race isn't sexist.

  • The only examples of sexism I'm aware of have been at the hands of the cable pudits and right wing hate radio bloviator.

    I simply hate false victimhood.

  • And they're have been, just not from the Obama camp. But the blowback from Clinton's claims are falling on Obama.

  • There needs to be one or more respected and high level female Democrats countering Hillary's suggestions that a) she lost because everybody's a sexist, and b) Obama and his campaign are misogynists... by mere virtue of winning.

  • MAybe. Frankly, I would first put it on Clinton to bring her supporters in, and after that decide how to handle this.

(And would you want to be the politician who takes on that battle? You've got to do it in a way that doesn't anger that section of your voters.)

  • I hear what your saying...

After weeks and weeks of fanning the flames of fake oppression and preying on (and manipulating) the hopes and dreams of (mostly) middle aged women across American, can Hillary turn this around? Will she?

First of all I wonder if her Ferraro-esque supporters have become self actuated. That is, they no longer need Hillary to feed their anger. Nor will they heed her calls of "nevermind, Barack isn't a sexist pig after all". The women may feel "Oh sure, Hillary HAS to say that 'cause the men made her. But we know how she REALLY feels."

Secondly, Hillary may LIKE the idea of going down in history as a woman robed of victory at the hands of the chauvinistic power system. If she cant be the victor, she can be the martyr. She was wronged by Bill, and now she's been wronged by the system. A system where the men conspired against her as a woman. Either way, victor or martyr, it would give her the currency of attention and influence (in certain circles) that being a mere loser never could.

I just don't know. As with her campaign which had no plan past 5 Feb, I have no idea if she has a plan B... a plan for her life/career past this primary season. Has she burned too many bridges to be a center of power and influence in the Senate?

  • I've been wondering about your "self actuation point." My thought is that even if the answer is yes, it's more a question of where the attachmnet is, whether it's on Obama, the media, or just in general.

As to your second point, that's how she's decided to try and paint the history of this. One key element of that would be to find others to tell that version of history, that's why whipping up the emotion is so critical. If it's only her saying it, it's sour grapes, but if she can get outside defenders....
