According to the Telegraph, Zalmay Khalilzad is sending signals that he may run to replace Karzai as the president of Afghanistan in the elections next year.
I don't know if he technically can do that, but I don't think the laws in Afghanistan are all that strict right now.
My bigger question is can he do it in the sense of actually winning. He will likely find the support of the wealthy businessmen in KAbul, but I can't imagine the warlords in the north and west, or the Taleban in the east and south would support him.
For the US, though, it would make puppeteer the leader rather than the puppet.
This is not the America I was brought up to believe in.
This blog seeks to highlight abuse of power, deception, corruption, and just plain bad ideas in government and corporations.

Can he do that? I thought we were committed to bringing democracy to Afghanistan. Isn't Zalmay Khalilzad another oil executive?
