Sen. Larry Craig says he's not queer, but he's still there, so get used to it.

Larry Craig's petition to get his bathroom hijinks plea deal revoked was rejected, but he says he's going to serve out his term. Incredible.

Later: Something to watch for: I saw Ed Rollins on Hardball make a rather veiled threat to Larry Craig saying that a Senate Ethics Investigation would likely include a public review of past allegations and evidence, some of which would be very graphic.

Sound like the Repubs are threatening Craig to get him to resign.

  • I'm not convinced he is queer (not that there's anything wrong with that). Signing that guilty plea sure was dumb though...a good lawyer could have got him out of trouble if he'd handled it better.

  • It doesn't really matter if he's gay or not. I really don't care. I'm wired on the hypocrisy of it. (And the mindblowing disbelief at the scandal factor.)

It's all just a matter of damage limitation at this point.

  • It's always the cover-up -- the denial spiral -- that becomes the scandal.

  • It is amazing...any day now some leading Republican will tell everyone to just get over it.

  • EPM, It's gonna be that way, because the longer it goes on, the more it will bleed over into a general Republican impression.

Anon, I don't think they will on this one. Craig's now committed the bigger sin of knowingly damaging the party.

He should have just held out for a think tank fellowship, taken the money and gone away.

  • Craig had TWO MONTHS to consult with his lawyers and think about his plea before he mailed it in. His act of being scared and confused rings a bit hollow when you consider that. The Republicans are known for swallowing some pretty bizarre twists on reality in order to save the Party, but Craig is asking them to impugn the criminal justice system (which they run), as well as overlook his statements to the arresting officer. The "gay" issue is really just icing on the cake, because if Craig wasn't a senator the Party would be calling for his head on a pike.

The GOP scores very little by forcing him to resign. The damage is largely done already.

  • Stay, larry, stay!

    Great stuff.

Can't wait to see the ethics committee meetings live on MSNBC.

"Senator, we're entering into evidence Exhibit A - the newspaper Craig claims he bent over to pick up form the stall floor..."

Oh, yeah - that'll be fun.

And then we'll get to relive the "Craig was schtupping pages" allegations from back in the 70's.

This should help the GOP erase the Culture of Corruption meme.

  • Todd, Also, he's actually a lawyer himself if I remember right, so, yeah, it's hard to sell that "panic" argument. He knew what he was signing.

And, I tend to think the GOP is better off with him gone. However, despite the threats, the worst thing that could happen for them would be an open ethics exploration.

But he seems set on that.

I think Craig believes his best "court" to prove innocence would be the ethics committee.

    ...

Reality, I really believe that Craig thinks he can "win" in the ethics committee, but what a mess this could be.

Nothing like a Senator whose hearing triggers the VChip.

    Cspan, after dark.....
