Picture of the Day
(AFP) Huckabee mixed humor, biblical references and the rhythms of a man used to the pulpit as he implored the crowd to put values above politics and not make expedient decisions.
He called for a constitutional amendment declaring marriage to be between a man and a woman and decried the "holocaust of liberalized abortion."
"We do not have the right to move the standards of God to meet cultural norms. We need to move the cultural norms to meet God's standards," he said, bringing the crowd to its feet.
Two days before in New Hampshire: (AP) "Republican presidential hopeful Mike Huckabee boasted on Wednesday about his rock-and-roll resume. The former Arkansas governor has opened for Willie Nelson and Percy Sledge and twice for Grand Funk Railroad."

While I disagree with just about everything in Huck's vision for America, he's probably the nicest guy in the bunch... the least angry, the least a-hole (well, Ron Paul isn't an a-hole, but I don't go for his Libertarian fundamentalism). Huck also seems less obsessed with selfish materialism.
Any idea why this guy isn't at the top of the GOP beauty contests? I thought he'd be.

I think it's because he reminds me of Jim Nabors. (Gomer Pyle)
Seriously, I would guess it's because he's out of the mainstream and most Republicans know that.
Plus, they don't really like "nice." They can accept friendly or jovial, but the current Republican structure is built upon something of a "strongman" kind of mold. They tend to like a bully whather it is Bush the frat boy, or some sort of moralistic crusader.
Even though Huckabee is right on the politics and positions, he just doesn't feel right.
That's my unscientific guess.
