A mystery on the Israeli/Syrian airstrike

I don't really know what this means, but I find it intriguing. Haaretz reports that online databases that track ship arrivals were altered after the Israeli airstike on Syria, removing the N. Korean flag designation on a ship that docked in Syria.

I don't know....

  • I've seen that story before. Seems strange to me a N.Korean ship carrying that kind of cargo would get that far.

  • Same to me.

I'm in this weird spot where none of the pieces fit together in any coherent way.

Because Israel bombing inside Syria is a significant event, I don't understand how we can not get the real story.

The two key mysteries to me are, 1) Why are the Syrians staying so quiet? What were they actually doing that they aren't massively playing this up?

    2) You figure the US had to at least receive pre notification (I've seen it rumored that the Saudis and others got that as well.) What are the circumstances that got all these nations to sign off, or at the very least, not talk about it publicly? What got Bush to sign off on this "big move?"

  • I have no idea. My best guess is the Israeli raid was timed to enforce the Syria/N.Korean/nuclear weapon concept in the world's collective mind if there is such a thing.

  • But do the Syrians not complain about that? Or the Saudis?

    Nothing seems to fit.

  • I think the Syrians see a certain futility in complaining. They know they are stuck with the bad guy image. They also have to do something about their air defence system.

  • Fair argument.

I read somewhere the Syrian leader very quietly say something like, "Syria has the right to retaliate.... No, I don't mean conventionally, but we have means to retaliate."

  • Yes...he said that in an interview with the BBC..

If the Israelis expected an immediate reaction they are still waiting.
