Informational from McConnell
This Rawstory piece attempts to dig into NSA surveillance of Americans, but frankly, it doesn't get very far. Of more interest to me are some of the informational bits on NSA foreign surveillance.
"Millions" of targets?
The United States' top spy said American intelligence agencies are intercepting "billions" of conversations and e-mails abroad....
The US is spying on "thousands, potentially millions (of) potential targets of interest," McConnell said later in the hearing.

Isn't this the intelligence variant of the old canard: If you give a billion monkeys a billion typewriters, eventually, through sheer chance, one will turn out one a Shakespeare's sonnets.
If we listen to a billion conversations from a million people, eventually, out of sheer chance, we'll uncover a terror plot. If we had enough translators.
That one hell of an example of "intelligence."

But, I would argue that millions of targets likely means we're going to miss the few we really should be watching.
Like the 9/11 communications that weren't translated until after 9/11.
