That doesn't look like any M1 carbine I've ever seen. I think it's an M16. I suspect the caption was written by someone who is unfamiliar with firearms. I don't mean that as a pejorative, just an observation.

No idea. I just liked the "Christian" candidate posing with the assault rifle.

D'oh! I missed the obvious anachronism.
But really, in today's MSM the only Christianity allowed to bubble to the front of the camera is this weird Ameri-Christian cult that blends American revisionist history with a type of perverse Christian theology. It's what the media thinks is the national Christian religion.

Exactly.
It's really weird to me that these people read the bible and come up with a violent, intolerant Jesus.

But why does the MSM treat this as the definitive representation of Christianity in America?
Is it the the same out of touch-ness (echo chamber) that makes them characterize Democrats as left wing or "liberal" (dripping with contempt) when the Dems are promoting an agenda supported by a majority of Americans. Indeed, by comparison, the Dem leadership is to the right of the majority of Americans.

Pagan anti-Xtian Theology aside, this guy has never fired a weapon. His left-hand grip has his thumb on the inside? He needs to grip the front stock not just cradle it.

EPM, we tend to see this portrayal of guns and god whenever the Democrats come to power. Think the "citizen militias" in the 90's.
...
Matt, Again I'll say I know nothing about guns at all. There were several other photos of Brownback with the guns, this one might be a photo op piece.

"Pagan anti-Xtian Theology aside..."
Maybe I'm a little defensive, but it is my PRO Christian sensibilities that have me so exorcised about these nationalistic Ameri-Christians. I see them as a heretical sect.

I don't think that's a shot at you.
By mikevotes, at 10:49 AM
Ha! "Shot" at you... Did you indend the pun?
Maybe not. But I think Christians need to grow a back bone and demand the media not propogate these people as wholely legitimate in the theology, let alone promoting them as THE Christian voice. I guess I felt the need to separate the right wing goats from the flock.
