It's all Al Qaeda in Iraq

I thought this was an interesting argument from an AP article asking why the Bush administration "highlights" Al Qaeda in Iraq.
Bush's warning about al-Qaida and Iraq "serves mostly to buttress the administration's claim that Iraq's problems are the work of outsiders, and not the result of the administration's mismanagement of the occupation and internal Iraqi factionalism," said Steven Simon, a Middle East expert at the Council on Foreign Relations.

(Apparently, I'm doing quotes today.)

  • Al Qaeda is a smaller group relative to the "placement" it gets, but they do punch bigger than their size.

I thought this was a very interesting discussion of why Al Qaeda is rhetorically emphasized as the key problem in Iraq.

The key problem in Iraq is a lack of settlement between the mainline Sunnis and Shias and that's gonna take forever.

On the photos, of course. You should know however that the best blogger guess right now is that it was near beer.

  • Oh, the rumors and reports have been around for awhile, and I don't have proof one way or the other, I just didn't want to set you up blind using those pictures.

I didn't get any comments, so I let it go without update, but I'd hate to set you up to get slammed, so I mention the near beer.
