Where's that War Czar? Mr. Cheney needs some coffee....
I'm certainly not surprised by the second paragraph,
At some point, the blame needs to be shifted from Cheney to the weak president who, after all this time and all these mistakes, continues to allow Cheney into the process.
Bush cannot fire Cheney, but he could certainly banish him from meetings and policy.
Cheney's continued influence is this failed president's choice.
In a move likely to irritate Tehran, the government has decided not to release five Iranians captured in Iraq, a newspaper reported on Friday.....
The Post said Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice had wanted to free the men because she judged them no longer useful but went along with the decision to retain them in custody that was strongly supported by Vice President Dick Cheney.

That title is the best comment I've seen on the war czar. :-)

It made me laugh, too.
It just so sums up the ridiculousness of the post and why there have now been 5 generals to turn it down.
All responsibility, name tied to the war, and no control.

Or at least take someone else's advice once before his second term is over.
Sheesh!

Isn't it pretty obvious to anyone that Cheney is really the president, and that Bush is a frontman/handpuppet?
I think he knew he was non-personable, and therefore unelectable as president, and decided that as vice prez he was sufficiently invisible, and could work wires behind the back of the throne.
Where's that quote from Bush from Time magazine just after his selection as president by the Supreme Court, in which he said he had received calls from some person in the religious field, and had responded 'Yes, I want to lead!'. It struck me as suspicious at the time, since it gave me the impression that somehow the presidency was a gift that someone could bestow upon whomever evinced sufficient interest.
Maybe I'm just being paranoid...

One of the biggest Bush mistakes is certainly the early role he gave Cheney.
Cheney was the head of the VP search team and managed to get himself in.
He was head of the transition team and peppered the administration with his cabalists in key and influential positions.
Cheney set all this up.
