Picture of the Day

Dick Cheney lurks in the bushes at yesterday's press conference, (Stephen Crowley/The New York Times)

What's particularly odd about this is that usually officials gather in the back behind the press.

  • I was thinking puppet master.

I saw the same eyes Binky did, it seemed like Cheney was making sure his puppet said exactly what he was supposed to.

  • I should probably add that the White House officials normally sit behind the press, but the press weren't provided chairs for some reason. They were standing.

Nor were they provided micorphones. Don't want any embarrassing audio of questions showing up on the nightly news. Oh. The Fox guy was stationed near a live mic, however.

  • That's right. I forgot about that. The one that lobbed the softball did have a clear voice.
