Also: The very Republican Senator Tom Coburn of Oklahoma just told Gonzales he should resign. (TPM has a bunch of clips.)

A little more. The backroom reviews of Gonzales from Republicans are amazingly bad, "like clubbing a baby seal."

The White House released a statement, "President Bush was pleased with the Attorney General's testimony today," but, of course, "the President has not seen any of that testimony."

  • He's spent the last two weeks surrounded by people trying to lift him up and tell him that it's going to be OK.

    He's practiced, he's all set up, and now he has to deal with this upsetting his carefully crafted image.

  • Dobbs led with "Down in Flames". Even Andrea Koppel (another CNN reporter who simply reads GOP talking points like it's her copy) was impressed by Sessions, Cornyn and Coburn turning on Gonzo.

    He's done. They'll throw him to the dogs and then try and say "Ok, the scandals done...let's move on."

  • I was just catching the Hardball review, and it's softer than the others but still negative.

    As for sinking the scandal with him, that's the classic scapegoat.

    He may soon be reblamed for torture, guantanamo, wiretapping, etc.

  • Yeah, the only meager support he got was from Hatch who is angling for Gonzales' job.

    If my state's shame, John Cornyn, doesn't support the Bush administration, it's over.

    He even offered support for Harriet Miers.

  • Is he gone tomorrow after 7 PM, do they wait to see what happens on the Sunday shows or does "the decider" dig in and decide he's sticking with Gonzo?

  • I've been trying to figure that out all night. Anything else they're trying to talk about gets undermined, but even if you want him to go, doesn't it give opponents a victory if he goes one day after testifying?

    Even if he's going to go, tomorrow would look bad, but keeping him around is bad too.

    So, I don't know.
