Time Magazine has a comprehensive (cover?) story titled "America's Broken-Down Army" laying the blame squarely on Bush for truncated training, poor equipment, and the rush of soldiers facing with endless deployments out the door.

Bush warned that if Democrats in Congress did not pass a bill to fund the war on his terms, "the price of that failure will be paid by our troops and their loved ones." But they are already paying a price for decisions he has made, and the larger costs are likely to be borne for at least a generation.

Is it just me, or are the wheels of the Bush administration.
And does it seem the Bush administration, and the dead-ender Republican rubber stampers in congress, seem to be increasingly outrageously over the top, out of control, in their hateful rhetoric toward anyone who dares disagree with the royal decider? I've been stunned lately by the unvarnished, visceral crudeness of these people.i82mch

Yeah, the administration is in chaos, all the mistakes are coming back to pull them apart.
They no longer have the ability to set a priority goal for a week or even a day.
How much focus could they generate now if they decided to talk about Social Security or Immigration or even the economy for a week?
The ugly realities of Iraq and scandal are setting the agenda.
(With a Dem Congress having more control than the White House.)
And, I don't think the rhetoric is any worse than it was before. It just seems more isolated.

I think the rhetoric is getting more personal, more shrill, and more frequent. Maybe it's just the frequency that makes it feel worse. It seems more desperate.
Re. the Dems: I've actually been impressed with how measured their responses have been, and how calm and patient they have been in advancing their responsibilities of oversight. While the administration flaps it arms and calls names, the Dems just patiently persist, slowly tightening their grip as they work to extruding the truth from the corrupt.

I thought it was funny that a man who shot a friend in the faces -- and then hid from the police -- thinks he has any moral standing to accuse Pelosi of "bad behavior." Too rich, that one. The Onion just writes itself these days, doesn't it.

EPM, You're right, the Dems are playing a very smart game in all this. They're making the Republicans seem strident and desperate.
And as the pressure increases, the Admin looks more and more isolated.
Re: Cheney, I'm often amazed how thin his skin is. Telling Leahy to fuck himself.
The whole Plame thing was about Cheney trying to protect himself.
