Guilty, Guilty, Guilty, Guilty
I Lewis "Scooter" Libby was found guilty on four counts of perjury and obstruction today, and all I keep thinking is how nice would it be to have Valerie Wilson still operating since 2003, burrowing out information on clandestine nuclear programs? Let's remember, that's the assignment that was blown.
Not only did this burn Valerie Wilson, but it also likely burned anyone associated with her cover and anyone she had contacts with. Now, those sources into the nuclear blackmarket and Iran are likely gone.
That intel sure would be useful for those trying to assess the reality of the Iranian nuclear program. Maybe with Plame still in her job, we wouldn't be tricked/lied/manipulated into another war.
Oh, wait.....

That's the reason behind her name being leaked in the first place, her husband pointed out the previous lies to get us in a war.
So.. Scooter gets a pardon, or ends up suiciding himself in prison?

No prison. Appeals and then the pardon.

I agree with Reality, an 18 month dance through delays and appeals and a likely pardon on Christmas Day.
I think alot would depend upon the president's standing at that point. If he's as unpopular as now and his legacy's already toast I could see a pardon.
The one complicating factor is that it has to be OK with some key elements of "the base" because they will be the only ones fighting for that legacy. Looking at the press today, I don't think that's a problem.

Lew, I don't see that Libby poses a real problem to them. He's shown he'll keep his mouth shut and take consequences. Hell, he may have tossed his trial to keep Cheney off the stand.

I know that Fitzgerald said in the post-trial interviews that this particular investigation is over and closed, but I still hold out hope that further charges or indictments may be made about other members of the current administration for other misdeeds.

I thought Fitzgerald was passing a message to Libby in that press conference.
You're going down alone.
If you want to work out a deal, it is now on my terms, you come to me.
