Catch-22 - Iraq
If so many Iraqis want US troops to leave, and US troops don't leave, doesn't that pretty much cement that the US are occupiers?
And, if the US's sole reason for staying is to prop up a Maliki government, doesn't staying/occupying/training automatically create Maliki's government as a US puppet?
I guess the bottom line question is, isn't the US staying actually undermining the government we're supposedly trying to support?

And if so many of us voted in effect to end the war and get our troops the hell home, but all the great minds in Washington and all the great minds of the media agree with one another that we can't simply begin pulling troops out, doesn't that pretty much confirm that we don't have functioning democracy right here in the US? And if that's the case, then we are trying to export a commodity that we don't have. And we are borrowing money we don't have to pay for exporting a commodity we don't have. Is this insane or what?

Yes. It's politics.
And, I don't think the intention was ever to really export democracy in its true sense.
The goal was to export a democracy that could be massaged to produce a government that is friendly to the US and not Shia dominant, even though that's what the voters might want.
