Picture of the Day
A demonstrator kicks a wooden panel placed by authorities to close the entrance to a subway station in anticipation of violence expected during a march on the eve of the 33rd annivesary of the military coup led by Gen. Pictures can be moments in time that turn out to be art. A sort of suspension that is better than watching it transpire.

There are some powerful pictures from that protest. I found one which justaposes brilliantly with the photos of George and Laura Bush laying a wreath at Ground Zero.

Sumo, They also add a depth and face that is difficult except in the very best writing.
D-Kid, yeah. It is their "September 11," and it was brought on/backed by the US.

Far more -and longer - than Sept. 11. He led a coup against the president who put him in his cabinet, ending one of the most established democracies in Latin America. It brought on a decade and a half of brutal dictatorship, which killed thousands and tortured many thousands of citizens. The current president of Chile's father died while imprisoned by Pinochet's regime.
