Haaretz - No rockets from Qana?

How does this play into the politics of this war?
As the Israel Air Force continues to investigate the air strike, questions have been raised over military accounts of the incident.

It now appears that the military had no information on rockets launched from the site of the building, or the presence of Hezbollah men at the time.

The Israel Defense Forces had said after the deadly air-strike that many rockets had been launched from Qana. However, it changed its version on Monday.

The site was included in an IAF plan to strike at several buildings in proximity to a previous launching site. Similar strikes were carried out in the past. However, there were no rocket launches from Qana on the day of the strike.

  • My suggestion is that our warriors are still caught up in the days when military untruths could be freely spread, for any number of reasons; obviously including propaganda, disinformation and massaging the brutal truth.
    They can’t seem to grasp that each successive ‘war’ now has far faster and more accurate independent sources.
    It is not only the warrior journalists with their high tech equipment but astute citizen reporters as well. I guess that is another reason the ‘west’ is floundering in the PR war.

  • It seemed to me that it would be fairly rudimentary for Israel to prove the necessity of bombing that particular building. That they did not attempt to is not surprising.

  • Cartledge, Yeah, I'm kindof crystallizing a megapost in my head on the "new" media additions to the guerilla playbook.

    And, Praguetwin, but, certainly they could lie about it. They could say evidence of Hezbullah, must've gotten away or somesuch.

  • What strikes me is that every time the (the US or Israel)is exposed, people still believe the next lie until that is proven false as well.

  • I meant that they could show specific satellite imagery showinging say a rocket being launced from the roof of th building. This imagery could be easily confirmed as accurate or otherwise.

    As the article points out, the bombing looks to be unconnected to Hezbollah activity.

  • Lew, people are raised in this country, schooled at least to hold this ideal vision of the US government. Up through high school, there is no real discussion of the problems.

    From my own memory, there was talk of the historically distant and safe teapot dome scandal and tammany hall, but no mention of the politics of Vietnam.

    Abi, I linked that in a quickhits somewhere. Incredible, huh?

    Praguetwin, yeah. There were other motives apparently in that bombing.
