Yeah. I also found it telling that the kid was masked.
Is he mimicking (playing) what he sees? Or is it that his identity might give away his dad's identity?

I figure a little of both. Also, he is protecting his own identity.
In a few more years, there could be shots like this of kids that weren't even born when the war started.
