Hamid Karzai, "the mayor of Kabul," says the US's strategy in the war on terror is wrong.
And, Mr. Bush, if you want to shut Guantanamo, you can, with the wave of a pen. The only thing stopping you is the fact that these people have been held illegally and thus cannot be tried in US courts. Oh, wait, that was your decision too, right?
The Army has raised the maximum enlistment age to 42. 42! I'm not there yet, but already have to take a day off after playing tennis. Can you imagine Boot Camp at 42?
The Wall Street Journal has a big map graphic of Zogby polling on the 2006 Senate races. (Credit to Harold Ford for making Tennessee a race.)
The WaPo has a front page story on three Republican congressmen, Hastert, Calvert, and Miller, who just happened to reap massive real estate profits from earmarks they added to legislation.
Rick Santorum, flailing about for any kind of attention in his losing Senate reelection campaign, claimed on the Senate floor yesterday that WMD have been found in Iraq!!!! You know, Rick, when your pro-administration claims don't make it onto Drudge, and you get shot down in person on FoxNews, you're way too far out there.
Finally, I stick this at the bottom because, judging by the coverage of the media, this is where they think this news belongs. Five US soldiers were killed in Iraq yesterday. Four US soldiers were killed in Afghanistan yesterday.

Hope your boss doesn't read your blog. ;-)

shut Guantanamo Its funny, but while wanting to have this atrocity shut down, I worry about what might happen to the hapless prisoners.
The record of this administration is not exactly transparent, or lacking is dubious, righteous retribution.
On top of that, I doubt the admin will want stories from the inside gaining too much attention.
Either way, both Bush and his prisoners still seem trapped by the history of the place.

The blog is completely anonymous for a reason Abi. Most friends and family don't know I do this. In Texas, I would be stigmatized(at least when I started it,) and it would quite literally cause real problems related to work. But, yeah, I find my way out occasionally.
Cartledge, I think, at this point the folks in Guantanamo are somewhat documented. There was recently a list issued through FOIA. So at the very least, the same number have to come out, or be accounted for as were on the books.
It's the folks in the secret prisons who have disappeared. Early in Guantanamo there were unregistered prisons, but for the military to hold unregistered is a black letter war crime, so they were hustled out early on.
Romunov, the best part was the DoD coming out shortly thereafter and shooting him down.

Sad commentary, Mike.

Mike, yes, they are accounted for, unlike who knows how many others. What concerns me is just what the alternative will be. I can't see any real decency entering the picture.
But we moved into the next round, so the day isn't entirley negative :)

Well, that's the real problem with the extra-judicial model. There's no resolution but to hold them forever or release them to countries with bad judicial systems.
And, Congrats. It's a hallmark of all Gus Hiddink teams that they are more fit than anyone else and so score late goals. Did it again.
That was a great game to watch. I thought the keeper kept it interesting though.

I think the keeper, the Aust keeper, might have played his last internationmal. Guus' experiment fell flat there.

Yeah, poor guy. At least he got away with it. It would've been awful if he'd gotten tagged with keeping y'all out of the second round.
