The cyanide attack in NY that didn't happen

Ummmm.... In this story of a cyanide attack on the NY subway system that was called off by Al Qaeda in Feb '03, did Time magazine just tell me how to construct a cyanide dispersal device?

(I'm guessing that this Suskind reporting relates to this terror warning on Feb. 7, 2003.)

  • The NY Times story this morning says a cyanide attack would be less effective than getting on a train and shooting people with a gun. I know Susskind's book has been ready to come out for a while, but I wonder if the WH isn't happy this morning that they get a headline like "Terrorist Attack on NYC Subways Averted" in the newspapers?

  • Good point. I kinda thought about that, too.

    It does fit in with the Rove strategy and the deliberate attempt to link the war on terror and Iraq on the floors of the Senate and House this week.

    And, I don't know the technicals on such an attack.

  • That's my understanding Leslie, that unless they have dozens of gas generators, the damage would be at the aum shirikyo level, which is severe, but not a mass attack.
