Your ISP may soon be required to spy on you by law.

It didn't take long for the idea of forcing Internet providers to retain records of their users' activities to gain traction in the U.S. Congress.....

Colorado Rep. Diana DeGette's proposal says that any Internet service that "enables users to access content" must permanently retain records that would permit police to identify each user. The records could not be discarded until at least one year after the user's account was closed.
I know, but still....

  • It's actually even a bit more extreme than the EU's data retention law to which this one is being compared. A number of commentators and blogs have noted that the act as written could also require businesses to log traffic.

    And a Democrat proposed it...sheeesh!

  • Yeah, but it's bipartisan. The Dem proposing it really was working off a draft out of the justice dept.

It's just the new lever to go after civil liberties and control people. First it was the mafia, then drugs, then street gangs, then terror, now we're headed towards pedophilia.

All these thing are quite wrong, but did the special statute laws end the mafia, drugs, gangs, or terror?
