Iran a decade away from nukes
This is common sense and everywhere, but I thought it would be a good idea to repeat it all the same. (WaPo A01)
This sudden Iran policy flare up is a distractionary tactic to move American opinion away from the scandals that have been plaguing the Bush admin. It's no coincidence that Iran suddenly came back on the policy screen after the Christmas holidays. (holidays that Iran doesn't celebrate!)
The carefully hedged assessments, which represent consensus among U.S. intelligence agencies, contrast with forceful public statements by the White House. Administration officials have asserted, but have not offered proof, that Tehran is moving determinedly toward a nuclear arsenal.

No, but we don't have to hurry into a bad decision. We have time to come to accomodation with the Russians and Chinese. They don't want a nuclear Iran either, but the also don't want sanctions because Iran is a major trading partner for both.
They have the ability to influence Iran. Our complete inability to control Iraq has given the Iranians a complete sense of safety.
We have time for (gasp) diplomacy. We could actually use this opportunity to remold the relationships rather than shattering them and undermining the credibility of our military threat like we did in Iraq.

Imagine how Iran must feel now that we moved in on either side of them. I think that's called a 'crossfire' isn't it? If it was my waterhole I'd be making some big noise too.
