Quickies on a quiet newsday
The Washington Post has a great graphic showing Abramoff's money flows.
Our Texas redistricting case is going to the Supeme Court. For those of you outside Texas, overturning Delay's redistricting plan could mean 5 or 6 house seats most likely switching from Repub to Dem.
(Oh, I almost forgot, the president gave a speech today, I just watched CNN for thirty minutes and they barely mentioned it. Did anybody watch? Did he actually say anything? Was a four speeches too many?)

He took questions, too.

I'm sorry I missed that. It's like seeing a rare bird.

Yea same speech, different location. Afterward he took a few questions, several from slobbering GOP zombies who lavished praise on him while they tossed him softball questions. One thing I did notice though was that he appeared to be sober and coherent.

here's a news item you may have missed:
second night of race riots in Sydney Australia.
This is different than the France riots, in that the rioters were poor and not likely to be "in the loop" so to speak...these riots started after a couple of Lebanonese guys got into a fight with some lifeguards (may or may not be true, may or may not be racially motivated) and now the white population is going around beating up on anyone who looks "middle eastern"
a bad scene all around....

I just watched NBC Nightly News, and Brian Williams followed Bush all day, including the speech. He did take questions, and somebody asked him how many Iraqis had been killed so far. He responded, sounding like he was talking about something inconsequential, "Oh, something like 30,000, give or take." Williams asked him some pretty good questions through the day, but nothing really tough. Bush got upset when he raised the race issue vis a vis New Orleans, "You can call me whatever you want, but don't call me a racist." I don't know, I have such a hard time watching the guy grin while he's talking about war, and why does he always sound like a whiny teenager when he answers questions, like he's cranky all the time. Well, enough blather.
